The Cabinet War Rooms
Step into the subterranean secret war rooms, right in the heart of Westminster, and uncover a covert piece of British history. These underground tunnels and rooms were the strategic planning hub needed to defeat Hitler’s fascist regime during WWII.

Operational from August 27, 1939, just days before the invasion of Poland and Britain’s subsequent declaration of war on Germany, the War Rooms played a pivotal role in British history. Explore the corridors that protected senior government members, witness where Churchill and his War Cabinet met, and step back in time in the Map Room, which remains exactly as it was when the war ended in 1945. Discover the Transatlantic Telephone Room, disguised as a tiny private toilet, where Churchill secretly communicated with the President of the United States.

The Churchill Museum
Set within the War Rooms, the Churchill Museum offers an in-depth look into Winston Churchill’s life, from his birthplace at Blenheim Palace to his military career and two terms as Prime Minister. This award-winning interactive museum houses intimate artifacts, including handwritten letters and Churchill’s personal belongings, and features extracts from his rousing wartime speeches.

Undercover: Life in Churchill’s Bunker
Discover the stories of the staff who worked and slept underground, contributing to the war effort. Explore powerful historic images, artifacts, and interviews with the men and women who shared close quarters with Churchill during WWII. See the famous Remington Noiseless typewriters, imported from the U.S. because Churchill despised noise distractions.
